“The Monarch Butterfly caterpillar feeds from the Milkweed plant from which they obtain a distasteful toxin to deter predators from eating them. The caterpillar’s bright colouration is a warning to these predators that they are potentially toxic. The Pied Currawong and the Black Faced Cuckoo Shrike are the only two species of birds in Australia that have been observed eating them with no ill effects.”
